Muscular Strength and Muscular Endurance

The overload principle of training describes the exposure of a muscle/muscle group to a load above and beyond the demands of day-to-day life. Repeated bouts of overload lead to adaptation by the tissue in use, thereby improving its functional capacity.

Body Vision

At Body Vision you will be assessed before an individually prescribed strength and endurance program is designed: an “overload” program. Education regarding the major muscles will be disseminated, and you will learn about full range-of-motion for the joints and the muscles that allow/assist  that motion. You will learn a variety of exercises that can be used to increase your strength and muscular endurance.

As we age, the number of muscle cells in our bodies begins to decrease through a process called sarcopenia. This decline begins relatively early, in the 30’s. Starting at about age 50, men lose muscle strength at the rate of 12-14% per decade, and strength levels in women start to decline slightly earlier.  But strength training can battle sarcopenia, decreasing and delaying the onset of muscle loss for men and women of all ages.

Home exercise programs will be designed and thoroughly taught to you. You will be given a binder that will act as a reference guide. With the help of pictures and descriptions, it completely describes what you should be doing at home, including a record/log sheet for you to record your workouts on. Your trainer will periodically review your log for re-assessment and program updates.
